Brighter Than The Sun

Today I put on a bunch of bright things, including my neon Joe t-shirt which is quickly becoming a favourite. I wear it ALL the time! I would probably go back for the other colours, but I'm implementing a shopping budget effective immidately.

My outfit was so bright that Sarah told me I looked way more tanned then usual, which basically made my day. It doesn't take much, apparently.

Also, Sarah and I read an article called "how to pose for photos" with the hope of stepping up our posing game, but as you can see it didn't really work out in my case. It's a good thing I quit modeling back when I was 14 because not only am I not skilled at smiling with my eyes, I am only able to make ONE face, always, AND I look generally uncomfortable in front of the camera. Tyra Banks, if you are reading this, as I'm sure you are, please help a girl out!

Achromatopsia

Blogblock 2012 is over! It must have been a short (and scary) glitch because today we had access to blogs again. Yay!

Sometimes I'm bad ass and decide to wear jeans to the office, in the middle of the week. In my mind I figure that as long as they're coloured jeans, they're not really denim at all and no one will notice. Well...today my director was like "Way to wear jeans.... on a Tuesday"....so I guess she (and everyone else) can tell. Noted.

These shoes are such a perfect match with this outfit, that it kind of throws the whole blue and yellow thing into "overkill" territory, BUT I couldn't resist. Perfectly matching outfits, like poetry that rhymes, still make me happy (because I'm 10 at heart).

Also, it was 40 degrees today AND raining. At the same time. That explains the unfortunate hair. Partly.

Mullet Monday

I didn't want to be overly dramatic (total lie), but today's post really could have been called "miserable monday" because this morning a bunch of us bureaucrats realized we've been blogblocked. It's like being cockbloged but WAY WORSE - it means that we can no longer access blogs at work. I'm still trying to process this terrible development.
Blogs have really become an integral part of my daily routine. Any time there was a lull in work or I needed a short mental break, I would browse my fave blogs and spend a little quality time with stylish men and women from all around the world. Now that's been taken away and I'm really not sure how I'm going to handle it. *dramatic sigh* Oh the agony!

On to today's outfit: the mullet skirt. I don't think that's what they're actually called, but that's certainly what they look like. This is one trend I really didn't think I would embrace....much like ankle booties, and then I caved and now I'm obsessed. I'm still holding strong on the "no belly tops" front. Stay tuned to find out if I cave on that one as well.
I fell in love with this mullet during out last trip to Syracuse, and now I can't even remember what it was about these skirts that bothered me initially. Maybe it was the fact that I can't decide if the party is in the front or back. What do you guys think?

Run of the Mill

Sometimes (aka basically every day) I think "My oufits are not blog worthy". Today was one of those days.
Nothing exciting about this outfit, but it's what I had on today so here it is.

Shirt: Walmart, Jeans: Winner's, Sandals: Payless, Necklace: Smart Set, Bracelets: Gifted from Cuba

Currently, I am suffering from a serious case of buyers' remorse. After work I had 30 minutes to kill before heading to dinner with some friends. I needed to buy my dad something for his birthday, so I decided to make a quick stop at Winner's.
I ended up being late for dinner AND with a 160 dollars less in my bank account. As if that wasn't bad enough, after I dropped my friend off at his hotel, I was heading home and happen to pass by Marshall's. It was 8:40 pm, so I thought "Oh I'll just pop in here for 20 minutes and just do a little browsing"....two identical (different coloured) shirts later, and here I am....feeling pretty confused.

On the one hand I am upset because I can't afford these purchases AND I promised myself I was going to start budgeting better AND I exibited zero self control. On the other hand I REALLY like everything that I bought and know that I will wear each piece and be very happy about it.  Ugggghhhhhh. My name is Maja, and I am a shopaholic!

Mixed Up

Today was a pretty big day. Inspired by some of my favourite bloggers (here's looking at you Annie!) I decided to take the plunge and try mixing patterns. To be honest, this is a pretty tame, monochromatic version, and even though the patterns are different, it still has a very matchy-matchy feel overall, BUT I'm definitely wearing dots AND stripes at the same time. *high five*

Mixing pattens got me feeling super brave, so I also wore my cardigan backwards. This is something I saw a while ago and have been meaning to try. Today may have not been the best day to be wearing a buttoned up cardigan, since it was VERY hot, but I'm a sweaty trooper.

Things I've realized since I started blogging # 7647645638456: My right (in the photos) bang is always kinky and weird. Always.
Awesome.

Already Half Way Done

I love long weekends, for many reasons, one of which is that they are always followed by short weeks. Glorious. Today is already Wednesday, and that's pretty damn awesome.

Then I realize that sometimes life just feel like a continuous countdown to the weekend. And I get slightly depressed, because I don't want to be counting down my life like that. Then I start to wonder if I'm really, truly, 100% satisfied with my career and how I spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. And then I get scared and need to stop thinking about it.
I digress.

It was so bright out today, so you can't really see any of the details of this shirt in these photos. I've worn it before. It has a bedazzled Petar Pan collar and pleats. I love it. You can kind of see the details (not really) in the second photo, which is why I am posting it even though I look super sad.

Also, getting dressed in the mornings is getting slightly tricky since my condo is now constantly at a balmy 27 degrees. When I wake up, I want to take everything off, not put clothes ON. I have an air conditioning unit, now I just need to find someone handy to install it. Better get on that soon, otherwise I'm going to show up to work in booty storts one of these days.

Tiresome Tuesday

Today. Was. Long.

I was feeling very lethargic and just generally blah all day. Perhaps it was because I didn't want to be coming back to reality after a fantastic long weekend, topped off with two amazing days at my friend's cottage. Waking up for work at 6 am on a rainy Tuesday is not easy, especially since the day before I'd woken up to this:

Heaven! Good food, good drinks, sunshine, heat, the lake and an awesome crew, it really was the perfect cottage experience.

On to today's outfit...... J Crew pants from my shopping trip to the US, and my yellow sweater. I needed a bright colour on this cloudy day.
Also, humidity + rain is not a good combination for my hair.

Hump Day Happy

Wednesday has been an absolutely fantastic day. A very challenging morning left me feeling nothing short of blessed and immensely thankful.
It was also a very busy day. It is now 11:56 pm and I left the house this morning at 7:30am. EXHAUSTED. Good night!

A Spring Thing

Today was the kind of gorgous day that makes working in an office for 8 hours really REALLY hard. *sigh*

I realized before we took these photos that I'm wearing several shades of purple (you can't really tell in the photos but my sandals are a light lilac/pink-ish colour), which is questionable BUT I think it all worked out well...or at least I hope it did.
Side note: I wish I had a mustard coloured cardigan to wear with this dress.

I also realized that in all my photos, I am always wearing the same sunglasses, and that's because....I only own this pair. I love my classic Ray Ban aviators!

Another Sleepy Monday

Until yesterday, I'd almost forgotten how tiring and time consuming cute boys can be. There you are on one of those rare (for me at least) dates where you just don't....want....to....leave. As the clock quickly approaches and then passes your bedtime, you know you'll be hurting the next day BUT walking away early from a pair of bright blue eyes is not an option sometimes.

I felt (/still feel) like a sleep-deprived zombie all day and wasn't really thrilled to be taking these pics. I got this dress at Winner's a while ago, but haven't worn it until now because it hasn't been warm enough. It was a total impulse purchase (I didn't even try it on), and I'm not sure if it's the lack of sleep talking but I feel very "meh" about it. I like that the colour blocking is done for you, but otherwise I could lahdkjhsdfkghaf (oops sorry, got bored and fell asleep while typing).

Dress: Winner's, Shoes: Target, Jacket: Guess
(not in photo: the fact that I'm wearing an underskirt slip thing as a tube dress, yes!)

Ummm can I just take a minute to rant? It's my blog, I can rant if I want to!

So I go to Lululemon the other day (Thursday) to buy my first ever pair of full length Lulu yoga pants with the gift certificate I got for my birthday from my friend (hvala, S!). Now these bad boys are not cheap, each pair runs for a $100 minimum, which is steep for yoga pants but basically priceless because they make one's posterior look fabulous.

I quickly find that the "regular" length is too short - story of my life. BUT the "tall" is waaaaay too long (who could possibly be taller than me?). The sales lady informs me that they do free alterations. I'm sad that I can't have my overpriced yoga pants IMMIDIATELY but, I agree to the alteration. I put on the "tall" pants, get up on the pedestal thingy and have her pin my pants at the appropriate length. Please note that I'm in my socks, not in 6 inch heels the entire time.

I patiently wait until today, when I drive directly from work in ridiculous rush hour traffic to pick up my prized new possession. I grab the pants and basically run home, only to discover they look like this:

W.T.F?
The woman had the pants altered so that they are: a) shorter than the "regular" length which was...too short b) RIDICULOUS.
How did she mess it up SO badly? HOW?

The kicker is that once a garment has been altered there are no exchanges, which is funny because I'm def not keeping these. The store said they would try and have them lengthened, but that sounds like it will look super ghetto. I wish I had tried them on in the store instead of running away, because now I have to:
1. drive back to the mall
2. wait another 4 days to see if lengthening looks as bad as I think it will
3. argue with them to give me a brand new pair (for a $100 I want both butt-lifting powers AND to not see my ankles)
4. wait another 4 days to have new pair altered correctly.

See you in June, butt enhancing yoga pants. *sigh* #sosad

Sunny Side Up

It's a beautifully sunny and warm day in Ottawa! Finally.

My weekend is well underway, and started with a girls only slumber party last night at my friend Sonja's. We ate good food, drank margaritas, gossiped, put on face masks and did our nails. No better way to spend a Friday night!

Here's the casual outfit I had on earlier today. I've had this maxi skirt since the winter and couldn't wait to start wearing it with some of my brighter pieces. This jean jacket was on my list for our shopping trip to the US. I wanted a lighter wash but couldn't find one that wasn't a belly top on me, so when I found this darker one at Guess I had to have it. It actually FITS! I'm hoping the dark denim won't stop me from wearing it basically every day this spring/ summer, as I had planned.
The gorgeous braided necklace was a birthday gift from Sarah of Small Town Catwalk fame. She made it herself!

Tumultuous Thursday

My brain hurts. That's the kind of day this turned out to be.

My outfit was inspired by / copied from Veronika's Blushing. I really love the jean + pink combo, a great twist on the good ol' business casual situation. I apologize for the weirdness of the photos, I think the "clarity" setting on Camera + may have been a mistake for these indoor pics (it was freezing and raining today, so we couldn't go outside).

Ok, need to go rest my hurting brain. Looking forward to a fresh start tomorrow.

I've Got That Illin' Feelin'

This morning I woke up...sick. How. Lame.
Two hour nap after work later and I'm still not feeling well so I'll keep this short.

This outfit was inspired by J's Everyday Fashion, and I'm really loving the colour combo. (The doctor at the clinic this morning said "My, aren't YOU colourful?" when I took my jacket off...that's a compliment, right?)

When it gets warmer/ for a non-work related occasion, I'd like to lose the blazer because I'm not 100% convinced the frilly shirt works that well under it.

Ok, I'm off to bed hoping to wake up feeling much better tomorrow!

Monday Has Been Cancelled

....go back to sleep. That's what I wanted to hear this morning because I was running SO behind and then hit a ridiculous traffic jam on my way to work. Always good to start the week off on such a grrrreat note.Blah!

My mom said this necklace looked like the type of chain they used to keep the cows tethered in place when she was growing up on a farm. Not *exactly* the look I was going for, but ok. Please note that my hair is still straight aka I haven't washed it for 4 days.

Dear Dry Shampoo,

I love you.

Sincerely,
Maja

I forgot to mention a small but amazing tid bit from Friday night. My friend's boyfriend (shout out to Anthony if he's reading) told me that my blog inspired him to start blogging as well, so in the fall he's going to be starting a football blog. What an awesome thing to hear!

Birthday Bliss

It's 4:35 PM and I just finished eating my brakfast. What. A. Weekend.

My birthday was absolutely, positively, outrageously amazing. I am the luckiest girl in the world to have such a fantastic family and group of friends. It was the best birthday weekend, in a long time...there were new friends, old friends, those who are close and some who may not be close physically but couldn't be closer to my heart. I am going to be starting out another work week exhausted, but it will be absolutely worth it, because I couldn't have asked for more, for my birthday! Even the universe knew something special was up, and gave me a supermoon to light up my birthday night!

The pictures are a small glimpse into my weekend (which is still under way - "Djurdjevdan je, a ja nisam s'onom koju volim"). I had fully planned on posting an outfit post on Friday, freaturing a special surprise: my straight hair, buuuut things quickly got out of hand, and there was no time for a photoshoot. It all started with a delicious Malaysian birthday lunch from our colleagues. Then...

Beer and chips. Love my job!

Neon cupcakes for the Birthday Bulls.

Yum!
"Couldn't have asked for a better night - or a better friend to share a birthday with." AMEN!
Surprise bracelet twins @ the party.

This guy was everywhere, all weekend. Slovenia!
Bas je lijepo "stariti" sa tobom! SonJ
